Green Lantern (Live Action Movie)

Footage was screened, fans were teased and news about the future of the Green Lantern franchise was revealed.

The panel may not have shown much footage, but the cast and crew surprisingly revealed a lot about the plot of Green Lantern, which hits theatres next summer. What plot points were revealed? Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

The Green Lantern Corps, in the first movie, will consist of the following major players: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), Sinestro (Mark Strong), drill sergent Kilowag, Hal's spiritual adviser Tomar-Re, Salaak, and Bzzd, director Martin Campbell's favorite.

A good portion of the film takes place off Earth, and the audience will be taken to the center of the universe - to Planet Oa, the home of the GLC - where all of the Corps' 3600 members will be glimpsed.

And who will the Lanterns fight? "Parallax", Ryan Reynolds blurted out. A living organism made out of yellow fear will challenge Hal Jordan, and ultimately impact Sinestro, who is not planned to go full bad guy until the second film in the planned Green Lantern series.

Surprisingly not as tight-lipped as we would expect from a big production such as this, Blake Lively also alluded to her character, Carol Ferris, maybe someday becoming Star Sapphire and "kick Hal's ass". (Editor's note: Lively gushed about the Harry Potter panel that followed her own, and talked very learned about her character and the DCU. In short: The hottest geek ever made. Oh, and if you don't know who Sapphire is and the role she plays in the GLU? Look it up.)

Other plot points:

A member of the audience asked if Mogo, the planet-sized Lantern, would make an appearance. Johns, the most tight-lipped of the panelists, said "There's a lot of Green Lanterns in the film."

Each Lantern has their own signature flying style in the film, and oh yes, we will see the Corps fly, on flying rigs, and not in CG. Score!

An early scene in the movie will introduce us to Carol and Hal's relationship and experience with planes, with Carol and Hal getting behind the cockpits of military jets in an exercise opposite planes piloted by drones. The scene is one of director Campbell's favorite in the film.
